One Potato Two

We actually have sweet potatoes!!  Back in August there was most certainly some question of whether or not there would be any, but lo and  behold, they are here and they are huge and gorgeous!  Woo Hoo!!  I am fixing sweet potato fries for dinner, you can count on that.  We also have some lettuce that isn't ready to go, but is holding some promise.

OK so I planted ENTIRELY too many lettuce seeds.  I was so aggravated with everything in the yard by then and the unrelenting heat that I just scattered seeds wherever they went.  I obviously used too many.  But I am NOT pulling any healthy plants.  They are just going to have to duke it out down there for dirt space.  Last time I pulled healthy plants, none of them came up.  I tried really hard not to have to put seeds in, but by the time I went to get starter plants, they were all gone.  Who put lettuce in when it was 100 degrees for heaven's sake?  Anyway, we will continue to cover them with our night time temps in the low 30's later this week and see what happens.  I also have some garlic that I thought would be ready in a couple of weeks, but they may have to stay in until spring.  Believe it or not we actually have a few peppers that were left on the vine and those are going in the Huevos Rancheros tonight for dinner.

I thought I would share a few highlights from the Halloween adventure at my sis' last weekend.  Wicked good times were had by all.

Our hosts.

The sheer madness.

Porch fun.

Costume winner for the night!

I am already planning the Thanksgiving menus.  The sweet potatoes have put me in the mood and we are getting ready for a couple of cold days here.  More on that later.  I'm going to dig out my sweaters now.
