We'll Take a Cup of Kindness Yet

As the year draws to a close I am left with a feeling of hope.  It has been the hardest year I can ever remember, not just for me, but for everyone that I know.  Deaths of loved ones and pets, sickness, disease, divorce, trouble conceiving, houses that won't sell, financial woes, job struggles, too many things- all of it has taken it's toll on all of us.   I have made a very conscious effort to keep my heart open to learn the lessons that the struggle always presents to us even when I wanted to bury it beneath a wall of protection.

Within the struggle I have also found compassion, friendship, support, boundless love, gratitude, renewed faith, contentment, courage, and an endless world of opportunity for growth.  It would be awesome if I could just learn those lessons without the utter heartache.

Our gift each January is that we get to start over.  We are able to turn the page and decide what we are going to write next.  As merciless as time is, these are the moments that I am grateful it continues forward.  Much like with the garden, winter is a wonderful and appropriate time to design what our next growing season will look like.  While it never goes according to plan, it is always more than I could ever have imagined.  The outline looks like what I put in place and that is what I am going to do for this next one.  A design for where the boundaries are and let the path be where it wants to.

My wish for all of us in the upcoming year is the courage to speak our truth, the grace to accept the abundance that is there for us, the opportunity to show kindness to not only those around us, but ourselves as well, to practice forgiveness, to laugh often (and at ourselves), to be surrounded by family- both our biological and chosen, and to love with every part of who we are down to the core of the gooey sticky center of ourselves.

Thank you for making this journey with me.  It's been an amazing year.  I can't wait to see what the next one has waiting.

I will close today with a very dear friend of mine singing Auld Lang Syne, which is one of my favorites.  Wishing you all boundless blessings in the New Year.
